Summer is around the corner and if you’re thinking about joining the exante Summer Challenge, you may be ready to find a new way to move your body.

The fitness world can sometimes be a little overwhelming, but we’re here to make the choice a little easier. We have broken down 4 of our favourite ways to stay active, along with some of the benefits!

What is a low impact workout?

Low-impact workouts are a great way to get started with exercising! They involve slower, more thoughtful movements that put less physical stress on your joints.

  • If you’re looking for low-impact workouts, you may want to try Yoga, Barre, Pilates, and Walking.
  • Low-Impact exercise is gentle on the joints and can help you burn calories.
  • This exercise is a  great way to build muscle and improve your mobility(1).
  • Low impact exercise is great to support your wellbeing and can help you to gain an understanding of your body while also spending some time clearing your mind.

What is strength training?

Strength and resistance training involves a series of physical exercises which are designed to test and build you endurance and strength.

  • Strength training is usually associated with weightlifting and can involve a range of different techniques.
  • It can build lean muscle tissue as well as strengthening muscles, bones and tissues. We love strength training because it raises metabolism and works to keep the body strong and injury free (2).

What is cardio?

Cardio exercise, sometime called aerobic exercise, is any activity that raises your heart rate into your target heart rate zone- it can make you sweat and is great for burning calories!

  • If you want to try cardio workouts, you might want to try brisk walking, running, jogging, and swimming.
  • Cardio is one of our favourite exercises because it burns fat and calories, enhance sleep quality and lower stress. It has also been said to reduce risks of heart attacks, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes (3).

What is a High Intensity Interval (HIIT) workout?

HIIT workouts involve alternating short periods of intense or explosive anaerobic exercise with short recovery periods.

  • HIIT training can burn lots of calories in a short space of time because your metabolic rate is higher for hours after a workout.
  • We love a HIIT workout because it’s great for losing fat and building muscle which is just what you need for the ultimate transformation (4)!

This year's summer challenge is all about shifting the focus to YOU, so if moving more is part of the challenge you want to set yourself, it is important to find what you enjoy …

Remember, it doesn’t have to be super intense to count. Just going on a sunny evening walk is a fantastic way to smash your goals this year!
