Low-carb diets not only allow your body to go into a state of ketosis (more on that later), but they can be a beneficial way to lose weight - particularly visceral fat (the fat around your middle).
While we don't encourage cutting anything entirely out of your diet, there are simple adjustments that can be made in order to reap health and weight loss benefits. The hype slightly died down a little around low-carb diets but there's a reason people have started to talk about them again.
Low-Carb Diets & Ketosis
One of the many reasons low-carb diets are so popular is the effect they can have on your body's ability to burn fat. When your body consumes a lower number of carbs and calories, it can enter a state of ketosis. This is when your body uses fat stores as opposed to carbohydrates for energy. And, because your body is producing less insulin, your weight loss results can often be much greater.

Our Total Solution plan is a 600-calorie, ketosis based diet which is used for fast and effective weight loss. Because of the nature of the diet, in that it is quite an extreme plan, it is only suitable for individuals with a BMI of 30 or over. Our Total Solution plan involves swapping all meals every day for 3 Exante meal replacement meals. You can choose from a delicious range of bars, soups, meals, desserts and shakes.

Low-Carb Diets & Healthy Eating Plans
Certain body-types, particularly those who are more prone to carrying weight around the middle, often choose to follow a low carb plan to try and lose a little weight or maintain a healthy weight without gaining it back in those 'problem areas'. Limiting the number of carbs you consume can contribute to a healthy diet, be better for your digestive system and can actually leave you feeling less sluggish and more energised.
Our Flexi Solution Plan offers a low-carb, balanced diet that incorporates two meal replacement products and one healthy meal and healthy snack per day. While this plan isn't a ketosis-based diet, it allows for steady weight loss or weight maintenance and still involves reducing your daily carb intake. Find out more about our Flexi Solution Plan.
Smart Swaps to Reduce Carbs
While not everyone is looking to go 'low-carb', there are a number of simple swaps you can make that are both healthier and often happen to be far lower in carbohydrates, without even really trying!
When it comes to eating out, the simplest option is to de-carb your favourites! Burgers without the bun, salads instead of pastas and lean meat and veggies are great go-to options. Plus, when it comes to snacking... we've got you covered!
The Truth About Carbs
Ok, so let's clear this up. While we're all for limiting carbs to help with weight loss, we are also carb-lovers (who isnt?!). It is more often than not, the type of carbohydrates that you eat which can actually lead to weight gain.
Refined, sugary carbs are usually the culprits and include things like white pasta and bread, cakes, sweets, chocolates (and basically everything else delicious!). However, complex carbohydrates are actually beneficial if following a healthy-eating plan and small amounts of them should be included in your diet. These include:
- Wholegrain rice & pasta
- Quinoa, buckwheat, oats, barley and bulgur wheat
- Fruit
- Nuts
- Peas, beans & lentils
