We’ve all heard the old mantra ‘breakfast is the most important meal of the day’ and it’s stuck with us for many years. It not only gets the metabolism working more quickly and keeps you distraction-free all morning, but it’s also super essential for keeping healthy throughout the rest of the day.

If you usually skip breakfast, eating breakfast might seem to add extra calories to your morning and stifle your weight loss goals. However, a recent study by Columbia University has found that skipping breakfast is linked to heart disease, strokes, high blood pressure, blood glucose levels, obesity and reduced insulin sensitivity. This is why those who skip breakfasts very regularly crave high sugar foods early on in the day and why multiple cups of coffee are the usual order of the day to boost their low energy levels.

The researchers also found that what time you eat can also have an effect on your health, including eating late at night. Late-eaters also had a greater risk of poor cardiometabolic health, which is directly linked to obesity. This is just another reason to not only watch what you’re eating, but also watch when you’re eating too!
